Love knows no boundaries, and Pradyumna Kumar (PK) Mahanandia’s remarkable journey stands as a testament to this timeless truth. The Odisha-born artist cycled over 6000 kilometers from India to Sweden to reunite with his beloved, Charlotte Von Schedvin.
PK Mahanandia’s life was never easy. Born into a tribal family in the remote jungles of Odisha, he faced numerous hardships. Yet, his passion for art remained unshaken, and this dedication eventually led him to Charlotte.

In 1975, Charlotte visited India seeking a portrait from the acclaimed artist. The connection they formed blossomed into love, and the couple married according to PK’s tribal traditions. However, Charlotte had to return to Sweden to complete her studies, leaving PK behind.
Determined to be with his wife, PK began a daring journey to Sweden. Despite his success as an artist, he lacked the funds for a flight ticket. Selling all his possessions, he bought a second-hand bicycle and embarked on his journey. PK cycled through Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, and across Europe. Along the way, he survived by drawing portraits, earning enough to sustain himself on his incredible adventure.
After months of endurance and unwavering determination, PK finally reached Sweden, where the couple officially married.
Today, PK Mahanandia is a celebrated artist and serves as the art and culture advisor to the Swedish government. Together with Charlotte and their two children, they continue their extraordinary love story in Sweden.
This inspiring tale highlights the power of love and resilience, proving that no distance is too far when hearts are destined to be together.
